What is ‘Glyphosate Residue Free’ certification?
Glyphosate Residue Free certification verifies that your product does not contain the World’s most used herbicide.
We work with third party laboratories which will test your products to make sure they do not contain glyphosate or the glyphosate metabolite AMPA.
What we certify:
- Single Ingredients from Suppliers
- Single-Ingredient Food Products (products sold to consumers)
- Multi-Ingredient Food Products (products sold to consumers)
If you are a food manufacturer and all of your ingredient suppliers are certified Glyphosate Residue Free you can automatically receive Glyphosate Residue Free certification for no charge, following a single glyphosate residue laboratory test of your product.
If your ingredient suppliers are not certified Glyphosate Residue Free you need to follow our full certification process for your product/s.
To be certified Glyphosate Residue Free, your product must have no glyphosate or AMPA residues down to the limits of laboratory detection (usually between 0.1 ppb and 20 ppb depending on the product), a standard that is tougher than the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Maximum Residue Limits (MRL).
What is ‘Glyphosate In Transition’ certification?
Glyphosate, as the World’s most used herbicide, is found all over America and the Globe – in our environment, in our water and in our food.
For this reason, even if you have a good level of control over your supply chain, it is possible that your product will contain glyphosate.
For this reason we are giving food manufacturers a chance to remove the glyphosate from their supply chain over a 2 year period by focusing on this issue.
Glyphosate In Transition products have to show a low detection level (under 200 ppb of glyphosate and AMPA) in the first third party testing and then have to reduce this level to ‘Glyphosate Residue Free’ within a 2-year period.
This enables food producers to make a very clear pledge to their customers – ‘We are taking the glyphosate issue very seriously – Our product is in transition to Glyphosate Residue Free!’
Why should I get my product Glyphosate Residue Free or Glyphosate in Transition certified?
CONSUMER REPORTS 2014 Survey: found that pesticides are a concern for 85 percent of American consumers more than any other issue:
Lindberg International 2013 Survey: 71 percent of Americans are worried about pesticides in their food and almost three out of four respondents would like to eat food produced with fewer pesticides.
Glyphosate is the most used pesticide in the World and has the highest public profile of any chemical used in food production. The revelation from WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) in 2015 that glyphosate is a ‘probable carcinogen’ has led to consumers across the globe asking for transparency regarding the levels of glyphosate in their food.
The global success of the Non-GMO food market has shown that consumers are pushing for more and more transparency and pesticides is even higher on their list of concerns than GMOs.

Why should I get my product ‘Glyphosate In Transition’ certified?
Glyphosate In Transition certification enables food producers to make a very clear pledge to their customers – ‘We are taking the glyphosate issue very seriously – Our product is in transition to Glyphosate Residue Free!’
How does Glyphosate Residue Free compare to USDA Organic or Non-GMO Project certification?
Organic, Non-GMO Project and Glyphosate Residue Free are complementary certifications.
However, it is important to understand the following:
a) USDA Organic certification does not ensure glyphosate residue free food due to poor supply chain testing standards. USDA Organic certification is also not based on testing of the final food product for toxic chemicals – consumers have been asking for final food product testing for many years and Glyphosate Residue Free certification is providing this!
b) Non-GMO Project certification – tests for GMOs in the supply chain but does not test for toxic chemicals. Toxic chemicals are more important to consumers than GMOs are according to almost all consumer polls.
Glyphosate Residue Free also has a lower glyphosate residue limit than USDA Organic certification in some cases. USDA Organic certification has a glyphosate residue maximum limit of 5% of the EPA or FDA tolerance for glyphosate and all other pesticides – in some cases this is relatively high, e.g.:
Sugarcane (mollasses): USDA Organic (maximum 1,500 ppb) , Glyphosate Residue Free (maximum 20 ppb )
Quinoa (grain): USDA Organic (maximum 250 ppb) , Glyphosate Residue Free (maximum 20 ppb)

How much will it cost to get certified?
The Detox Project has a set cost system for Glyphosate Residue Free and Glyphosate In Transition certified:
Certification costs $1,472 per year in total for all of your products.
Third party laboratory testing costs an estimated $600 per year for each of your products (this is for 3 tests per year of each of your products).

How long will it take to get certified?
On average, the Glyphosate Residue Free and Glyphosate In Transition certified process takes 2-4 weeks depending on the attributes of your product and how quickly you can submit the required sample for your product testing.
What type of products can be certified?
Any ingredient or food product that is for human or animal consumption can be certified ‘Glyphosate Residue Free’ or ‘Glyphosate In Transition’ as long as the methods used by the third-party laboratory, for testing for glyphosate / AMPA residues, can provide a clear quantifiable result for your product.
How thorough is the Glyphosate Free Testing Program?
The Glyphosate Residue Free and Glyphosate In Transition testing program is based on the work of independent ISO certified laboratories in the U.S., using gold standard low detection liquid chromatography tandem-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) methods.
We make sure that your product is tested at least 3 times a year and we also make sure that regular spot checks are performed.
