Test Your Food

Test Your Food

The Detox Project working alongside a private independent laboratory headquartered in California is promoting a unique LC/MS/MS glyphosate test for all food products and soil:

  • Validated LC/MS/MS glyphosate testing in food products and soil for NGOs and commercial companies
  • The lowest glyphosate detection levels in the World for final food products and soil – making this test the most responsible glyphosate testing available on the market
  • Testing for glyphosate and its metabolite AMPA in every sample

Due to chain of custody and legal issues, this food and soil testing is only available to NGOs and commercial companies, unlike The Detox Project urine and water testing which is available to the general public.

If you would like to test a product as a member of the general public, we suggest you discuss this with an NGO or company you trust and ask them to contact us.

Why is this food and soil glyphosate/AMPA testing the best available in the World?

Currently there are very few labs in the World that offer validated or verified LC/MS/MS testing for glyphosate and its metabolite AMPA. Due to the fact that most of these labs do testing solely for the food industry and not for the general public or for NGOs they do not concentrate on providing low detection levels for glyphosate/AMPA.

The Detox Project is using a lab that has recognized the need to offer testing that meets the public’s demands for accurate results, therefore it has developed testing methods that give very low minimum detection levels. Responsible chemical testing is chemical testing that shows what level of chemicals are in products even at low levels.

Who is this testing for?

Due to chain of custody and legal issues, this food and soil testing is only available to NGOs and commercial companies, unlike The Detox Project urine and water testing which is available to the general public.

If you would like to test a product as a member of the general public, we suggest you discuss this with an NGO or company you trust and ask them to contact us.

What are the range of minimum detection levels?

Below is an example of the minimum levels of detection (LoD) ranges for glyphosate and its metabolite AMPA in parts per billion (PPB):

Milk: Glyphosate (10 to 25) AMPA (10 to 25)

Yogurt: Glyphosate (5 to 10) AMPA (5 to 10)

Cheese: Glyphosate (10 to 20) AMPA (10 to 20)

Cookies: Glyphosate (5 to 10) AMPA (5 to 10)

Peanuts: Glyphosate (10 to 20) AMPA (10 to 20)

Beef: Glyphosate (2 to 10) AMPA (5 to 10)

Which lab performs the food and soil testing for The Detox Project?

The laboratory we are working with is an independent, ISO-17025 accredited, FDA-registered private laboratory headquartered in the U.S. The laboratory’s GC and HPLC staff has a combined experience of over 80 years in detecting pesticides in a variety of food products including fruits, produce, spices, and processed goods.

What method is being used for this validated testing?

The Sample is extracted using water and methanol. Extract is further cleaned and concentrated on an ion-exchange column. The extract is then derivatized using 9-fluorenylmethylchloroformate and filtered prior to LC-MS/MS analysis.

Derivatized Glyphosate and its metabolite AMPA are injected on to the LC-MS/MS and separated using a C18 column with a gradient elution of ammonium acetate buffer and acetonitrile as mobile phases. Ionization is achieved using an electrospray ionization source operating in negative mode. Analytes are detected using multiple reaction monitoring with isotopically-labelled analytes as internal standards. This method allows detection and quantification down to 2 ng/g (PPB) for food and soil samples with recoveries between 70-90%.

The Detox Project is working with the lab to offer NGOs and commercial companies testing of food products of their choice, to see if they contain glyphosate, at a cost of USD $ 176 per food sample. All payments are made directly to the lab and the lab is fully responsible for the testing and reporting of results.
